Guest Sensei.

Wellsprings Aikido is pleased to host Sensei from other clubs to our regular training sessions to foster the sharing of understanding among the Iwama Aikido community. Here are some details about our guest Sensei.

Richard Small Sensei Richard Small, 4th Dan TIAE

Richard Sensei began training in 1974 and has been a student of Tony Sargeant, 6th Dan TIAE, since the mid 1980's. He was awarded the level of 4th Dan in 2013. Over the years Richard Sensei has trained with Pat Hendricks 6th dan, Toyoda Shihan, Saito Sensei 9th dan, Bill Smith, Mathew Hill, Bill Harris, Miles Kessler, Kanetska Sensei, Chiba Sensei 8th dan, Yamada Sensei 8th dan, Tamura Sensei, Daniel Toutan, Andre Noquet and many more in Holland, Switzerland, France, Greece, Russia, mainland UK and Jersey.

Richard Sensei is also a student of Tai Chi and he has made several trips to China where he has studied with Tai Chi Masters Prof Li Deyin, Master Wang Yanji, Master Ji A Dong and George Xu. His studies with these Masters has furthered his understanding of the internal aspects of Aikido. Richard Sensei is keen to share what he has discovered with his fellow aikidoka.

After leaving the Fire Service Richard Sensei retired to north Devon where he teaches Tai Chi and Aikijo.

Terry Young Sensei Terry Young, 2nd Dan TIAE

Terry Sensei has been training in aikido since 1998. During that time he has trained regularly under Sensei Tony Sargeant, Sensei Paul McGlone and Sensei Peter Reynolds. He has attended more than 70 Seminars taught by some of the best teachers in the world including Sensei Pat Hendricks, Sensei Hitohiro Saito, Sensei Hoa Newens, Sensei Bill Witt, Sensei Ulf Evenas and Sensei Daniel Toutain.

Terry Young is a Sensei at New Forest Aikido Club.

Nigel Hymas Nigel Hymas, 2nd Dan TIAE

Nigel Hymas started training at Poole Aikido Club in 1992, first with Sensei Tim Buswell, then with Sensei Paul McGlone. He was awarded his 1st dan in 2005 and 2nd dan in April 2012. He has attended seminars throughout the UK, the Netherlands, and in Kefalonia under Sensei Tony Sargeant.

Nigel's other interests include first aid with St. John Ambulance, cricket and beach volleyball.

Elisa Barcellos Elisa Barcellos, 1st Dan TIAE

Elisa began training aikido in Poole in 1993 as a junior with Sensei Tim Buswell. Elisa's studies took her away from Poole but she continued her aikido training at various dojos around the country. Elisa returned to Poole in 2007 and attained the rank of Shodan later that year. She has particularly enjoyed the opportunity to undertake uchideshi (intensive training) in Iwama, Kefalonia and England.

Off the mat, Elisa works locally as a GP and she enjoys travelling and spending time with her children Olivia and Harry.
